The snow is thick on the ground here now and the blizzard is supposed to start around four. Like all Irish people the minute an ’emergency’ rears its ugly head, I will be watching the 5.30 News, the 6 o’clock News and the 9 o’clock News to catch any weather updates. When I venture out, I will smile wryly at everyone I meet, including strangers, in a way that suggests we’re all in this together. In the future, I will refer to this week as ‘The Big Snow Of 2018’ and I will bore younger people who weren’t born yet with anecdotes about how hazardous it was. At times like these, I really love being Irish.
